Travelling in Morocco During Ramadan

Ramadan this year is anticipated to fall between the 28th of February 2025 to the 29th of March 2025. It is a beautifully unique month to be in Morocco—a time of peace, reflection & community.

Our surf school and surf camp are open and running as normal during this period!

Below are a few things you may expect or experience whilst traveling in Morocco during this month.

  1. Daily life—Many locals fast (no food and no water) from sunrise to sunset. The fast is broken daily with Iftar, a special meal shared with family and friends. Tourists are not expected to fast.

  2. Quieter mornings - Expect a quieter atmosphere during the day, with a slower pace.

  3. Shops & cafes - Most shops and cafes in Tamraght remain open as normal however some will adjust their opening hours (opening later in the day) and a handful of places will fully close for the month. If you are planning to go out for dinner, aim to go after the Ramadan dinner around 8 PM. Most places will not serve whilst breaking the fast.

  4. Lively evenings - As sunset approaches it is a busy time on the streets as people return home from work, head to the shops, and await the call to prayer to pray and break their fast together.

  5. Time change - During Ramadan the time will go backwards one hour at the beginning and forwards one hour at the end.

  6. Alcohol - This can be harder to buy during Ramadan, so we’d suggest picking up something at duty-free on your way out, just in case.

We believe that traveling to Morocco during Ramadan is a truly special time to visit, offering a unique cultural experience for travelers.
